Yeah, I dunno, you either get it or you don’t. This is jazz. This is cool swinging rhythms a la Count Basie accompanied by the giant smooth voice of Joe Williams. It’s Saturday, 18:09, so supper time. I finished the lawn, took a shower, enjoyed some water and a Guinness and now I’m in my office. It’s beautiful out, a real enjoyable early summer day. The door is open as well as the window on my left so I’m in the house but basically outside.
Behind me my vintage system is playing Joe Williams / Count Basie as they teamed up whenever for the selections on the ‘Memories Ad-Lib’ record. The album is nice and clean, flawless and shiny, a clear NM, and the sounds are so sweet. My head could explode at any moment….
If you don’t know Joe Williams and or Count Basie you have no idea what you’re missing. Of course, that’s cool – you can’t keep it that way and never miss out on a thing you have no idea about. But, if you seek this stuff out, and it doesn’t sound like ass – so much music sounds like ass in 2014, what with our rediculous delivery systems – you will mark the day you were smacked upside the head by this music.
Side ended. Wait one…
OK, I’m done. You can bone-up on the album if you like, or not, if you’re weird or something. I can’t think of anything to write.
Aw, yeah – side 2. I’m gone, man….
